THOM BROWNE – THE MAN WHO TAILORS DREAMS
(Expected availability: 2025)

The portrait of Thom Browne, the American fashion designer who built up his career on the reintroduction of the conventional tailored grey suit, in new and unexpected proportions. The story of a man challenging the established notions of how men and women are expected to dress, of an extraordinary designer transcending the pure idea of creativity within fashion.

Thom Browne – The Man Who Tailors Dreams follows the American designer over the course of two years observing five collections and shows starting with the first one after Covid and ending with his first Haute Couture Show in May 2023 in Paris. The movie also looks back at the designer’s career which began with a shrunken grey suit that nobody liked except he himself. It focuses on his groundbreaking gender fluid collections as well as his appearance at the Met Gala. Today, he is one of the most influential and successful American designers.

Film review: Thom Browne – The Man Who Tailors Dreams

Reiner Holzemer’s captivating Thom Browne: The Man Who Tailors Dreams (a highlight of the 15th edition of DOC NYC) presents the designer as a sartorial caster of spells who changed the proportions of one ubiquitous garment, the gray suit, and thus shifted persuasively ideas of masculinity, femininity, and power in a puckish way.
