Reiner Holzemer’s captivating Thom Browne: The Man Who Tailors Dreams (a highlight of the 15th edition of DOC NYC) presents the designer as a sartorial caster of spells who changed the proportions of one ubiquitous garment, the gray suit, and thus shifted persuasively ideas of masculinity, femininity, and power in a puckish way.

On November 15, Thom Browne joined audiences in New York City for the premiere of The Man Who Tailors Dreams.

Known for his deep dives into the worlds of Dries Van Noten and Martin Margiela, Holzemer turns his lens on Browne, offering an intimate exploration of the designer’s life and impact.

Designer Thom Browne has long been admired as an American classic, but has more recently become a red carpet fixture and the object of obsession of Hollywood’s A-list.

Titled “The Man Who Tailors Dream,” the 95-minute film explores how a middle-class kid from Allentown, Pa., created a shrunken gray suit that spawned a multimillion-dollar business and changed the menswear landscape.

Reiner Holzemer’s film surveys the career of the American designer who built a half-a-billion-dollar luxury brand out of five reconceptualized gray suits.
